Nikon FM - CineStill 400D

It’s hard not to enjoy walking around Atlanta on a sunny spring day. With a Nikon FM loaded up with a roll of CineStill 400D, I set out on a journey for coffee with some friends. And while getting coffee was successful, the real treasure was the street art we saw along the way. Soon these pieces of art will be gone, covered up, and replaced. Enjoys the views of the fleeting.

It’s funny how many times I can pass by something before it jumps out as something I need to take a photo of. I remember this place being open years ago, when I worked not too far away from this spot. These were taken with a Nikon FE on Kodak Colorplus 200. And even with it being a bright, sunny day, I imagine someone would be waiting quite a while for hot takeout. Let me know if you get faster service than I did.

Ice Ice Baby

I’ve been eyeing this spot for a minute. Next to the liquor store, at the edge of the parking lot. Just waiting for me. There was a roll of 800T in my Nikon FE and it was still dark outside around 5am. This is also from my first roll of any sort of tungsten film. I definitely had fun with it.

Marvelous 3 Forever

Drum tech for Slug. This dude holds true to his name. I’ve never had more fun chasing broken drum parts and pouring beer into a Sharky’s sippy cup to keep it from spilling all over. Every show and every sound check was nothing but solid hits on that kit. Slug loves the drums, you can tell immediately when he plays. And to top it off, he’s the coolest motherfucker ever. Jayce & Butch, I love y’all, but I love Douglas Mitchell just a bit more. Marvelous 3 for fucking ever.

This was the first time I’ve ever taken a camera to a show. You know, venturing away from the usual crusty abandoned shit in the middle of nowhere that I find myself getting into. Between my iPhone and Nikon D750, it was a ton of fun getting some snaps of this art display masquerading as a rock show.

Getting to work on Slug’s Gretsch kit was a fantastic experience all around. My philosophy lines right up with how Slug approaches drums. The kit had an 16×24 kick with 9×13, 16×16, 16×18 toms, and a Ludwig Black Beauty 6.5×14 snare. The kick and snare were set up to be clear and cutting, while the toms were thunderous and powerful. These drums easily sounded larger than life in both rooms, The Tabernacle Atlanta and House of Blues Chicago.

Apparitions & Double Vision

Lubitel adventures and ghost hunting with a double exposure treat that looks great in that 6×6 medium format size on Kodak Gold with the wood paneling of the room setting everything else up just right.

Cabin Spaces

Wandering around Wellspring Mountain is one of my favorite things to do. One of the unoccupied cabins was just sitting there ready for a few snaps on the Kodak UltraMax I had in my Nikon FE.

Riding Around On Expired Gold

A few views of an afternoon riding around the warehouses in town with a new (to me) Nikon FE and a roll of Kodak Gold that expired in 2002. Pretty sure the lease was a Nikon 35mm f2 AIS. I intentionally over exposed a little, or a little more depending on the shot. These turned out better than I was expecting fo unpredictable film and the first roll through a new camera. Expired film is a blast.

Towed

Might need a tow. I think they’ve been sitting there a few.

It’s always a blast grabbing the Nikon FM as I’m headed out the door. I know there will be something cool to see. This time it was captured on Lomography Lady Grey 400.

De Soto Hotel Light Leak

There’s always something to see driving through downtown Kingston. The De Soto Hotel still has its charm. I’d very much like to see this place brought back to life with either a small hotel or restaurant. But even as it sits, the vibe of the area is welcoming.

So with 4 shots of Lomochrome Metropolis left in a camera that was known to need the seals replaced, I went for it. Pretty cool how it turned out with the light streak running straight down on the ramp in the sidewalk. I might hold off on replacing the seals in this Nikon EM.

The Park and HP5

The Park and HP5

Summer mornings in the south are the best time to get out while the humidity is still low enough to not immediately fog up my camera. On this late summer morning I took the opportunity. Grabbed a Nikon FM and a roll of Illford HP5+ to take with me. I'm not very sports...
